While there are many good Bible commentaries and Bible studies books available, the space and weight to transport them to Uganda is limited. Therefore, I recommend taking a one volume commentary and the best I know in that field is by Matthew Henry. There are three editions of it listed below. Pick the one you can get the best price on. It is a testimony to Matthew Henry's enduring faithfulness to the Scriptures that we find three publishers all having a one volume edition of his work. Matthew Henry's Commentary
On The Whole Bible
Complete and Unabridged in One Volume

This volume is 8¼ x 9½ x 2¾ inches and weighs six and one-half pounds. I like this edition best as it contains the full text Matthew Henry wrote in his four volume work, but with only Scripture reference rather than the full Bible text being included.

NIV Matthew Henry Commentary
In One Volume
Zondervan, ISBN 0-310-26040-X, (Hardcover)

This is an abridged edition, but still contains a great wealth of information. The Scripture text is that of the (NIV) such as "love" rather than "charity" in 1 Corinthians 13. Every section (usually by paragraph) in the Bible has comments and a brief outline. This volume is 6½ x 9½ x 2¼ inches and weighs four pounds.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
On The Whole Bible
Nelson, ISBN 0-7852-1247-7, (Hardcover)

This is an acceptable alternative to the editions listed above. It has the most abridgement, but is still a wonderful tool to place in the hands of a pastor who has no books to speak of. It has comments on every chapter in the Bible and usually comments paragraph by paragraph. There are helpful outlines for each chapter or at least each major section. This volume is 6½ x 9½ x 2 inches and weighs four pounds.
